The knowledge of the importance of collaboration is the beginning of growth on any platform. With the Instagram collab post feature, you can easily share your content across up to five Instagram accounts that you wish to collaborate with. This feature does not have any restrictions, it can be reels, photos, or carousels.

Aside from the aforementioned, this feature also has so much more to offer. To learn the full specifications the Instagram collab post comes with and how you can create one, keep up with me.

Key Points

  • A feature that allows multiple Instagram accounts to co-author and share feed posts, including reels, photos, and carousels, to amplify content reach and engagement.
  • Collab posts help in gaining more followers, increasing engagement rates, boosting reach, and simplifying content creation through partnerships with other brands or influencers.
  • To create a collab post, you need to select content, invite collaborators through the app, and share the post; collaborators must accept the invite for the post to go live.
  • Collab posts provide performance statistics such as likes, comments, shares, and follower growth, which can be tracked to measure success and optimize future collaborations.

What is an Instagram Collab Post?

To go over it again, an Instagram Collab post can be termed a feed post that can be co-authored and shared by multiple accounts on the Instagram feed. Being launched in June 2021, this feature functions by allowing the original owner of the account to create the content and then invite the other accounts to the Collab when posting. Then when the collaborators accept the invite, it will go on air.

When this collab post is made, it becomes available for all feed posts which includes reels, single images and then carousels. But as for Instagram stories and Lives, it’s a no. To put it on your stories, you need to go to the reel you made of it and then use the share function to add to stories.

Did I mention that collab posts also share performance statistics, including comments, likes and the number of shares? This feature also allows at most six accounts to collaborate on a post. And it can only be activated using a mobile device and not on the web version of Instagram.

The Benefits of Instagram Collab Posts

This function on Instagram has been efficient and a good way to present your content on the app with people you are in partnership with including brands, small businesses and content creators. And doing this brings multiple benefits to the creator and brands as well. Let’s look at these benefits:

#1. Gain more followers

Being in collaboration with other brands can help you attract more followers, because when you share those collab posts you’re indirectly accessing your collaborator’s audience and, in turn, your collaborator is accessing your audience, a win-win. Since it is mutually beneficial, both parties give their audience the luxury of exploring new content.

A lot more audience is even possible when the collab posts are seen as an endorsement from the brand, your followers will want to support by following up.

#2. Get more engagement

This is another great benefit of this feature on Instagram. Once you have a good collab post, you have a better chance of having a high engagement rate. This is so because fans of either of the collaborators are excited by the collaboration. When this happens, the Instagram algorithm loves it and even pushes it out to more feeds. In turn, the post will bring in more likes, comments, and shares than a normal Instagram post.

#3. Boost your reach

If you are looking forward to building a vast reach and awareness, then this feature is for you and your brand. This is because once your collab post goes live on Instagram, it spreads out to multiple feeds, your followers inclusive. You will notice an increased exposure that you have never experienced before. Also, this means you’ll increase the number of eyes on your posts, which will help boost your overall brand awareness.

#4. Simplify content creation

This particular function becomes beneficial when you are a small brand partnering with a bigger creator with a wider audience. You can just allow them to be creative and create mad content while you rest it out and give your team a break :). Still a win-win situation. Give them the freedom to let their own genuine spin on the content.

#5. Build your community

Once you engage in a collab post, other brands and users will see you as credible and authentic. They would want to follow through and connect with you especially if they share the same niche with you and also like the content you dish out. Before you know it, you will establish relationships with other creators and brands.

How to Allow Collab Posts on Instagram

Before you even set invites or wish to publish a collab post on Instagram accounts need to consent to the partnership. Even before the mentioned first step can take place, both collaborators should ensure that they are running their accounts in a public mode and not private. If the main creator of the collab post has been having trouble sending invites, then this is what needs to be done:

#1. First and foremost, find your way to your Instagram profile and tap on the menu icon which has three horizontal lines in the top right corner. Then click on Settings and Privacy function.

#2. Scroll to Tags and mentions.

#3. You will then see  Who can tag you written in a light link. You will then see three options under the section. I will explain what these functions mean. Allow tags from everyone, means that any Instagram account can invite you to collaborate on an Instagram post. Then Allow tags from people you follow, which simply means that only accounts that you follow can invite you to collaborate. Don’t allow tags option means that no one can tag or collaborate with you. Don’t go for this last one if you are expecting a collab.

Go ahead to choose the function that suits you more and you are good for collabs.
